New Research Indicates that Massage Therapy Helps with Pain Management

There is new research showing that massage therapy can be an effective pain management tool for people suffering chronic pain. The American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) has put together recent research suggesting that massage therapy helps with pain relief and controlling symptoms in people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, metastatic cancer, as well as post-cardiac surgery pain. In all of the studies, massage therapy successfully reduced pain and improved quality of life. Findings also indicated that massage therapy improved sleep quality for individuals with metastatic cancer, increased grip strength and range of motion for people with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and reduced anxiety and muscular tension post-cardiac surgery.

The Arthritis Foundation has some wonderful things to say about massage and support its use as a pain management tool for people suffering from arthritis.
