Are you under stress? How is it effecting your body?
This is an excellent visual example of the physical results of stress. We may realize we have stress in our busy lives. I mean really who doesn’t? But do you really know what it is doing on a physical level.
Stress effects many physiological processes in the body but for the muscles this is how the process goes. You are under ongoing stress in your life. Which causes muscle tension and shortening, the best example is the shoulders raising up toward your ears and tightening up your neck.
This leads to restricted movement perhaps the lack of being able to fully turn your head in the above example. When the muscles are contracted they are not getting proper circulation and they create toxic buildup and you get those muscle knots or trigger points.
This is about when you begin to experience pretty regular pain (though everyone is different). Which get’s you into a difficult cycle at this point you are experiencing pressure on the nerves and reduced circulation of new blood through the tissues which just continues on the problem. You want to get treatment on this type of problem at the very beginning.
Once you are at the pain point you need to see a trained professional to deal with it: your chiropractor, massage therapist or acupuncturist are a few great people to seek out.
To prevent getting to this point you want to deal with your stress before it negatively effects your body. Great stress reduction techniques are;
- get a massage
- talk with a friend or therapist
- stretch / yoga
