Yoga Stretch to Reduce Stress
All stretching is quite relaxing though sometimes challenging. I thought with the holidays upon us it would be nice to share something you can do to let go of the stress and anxiety that sometimes happens during the last few weeks of the year.
In yoga this stretch is called reclined butterfly. It is a great way to open up the front of the body, stretch the psoas and hips and really just focus on taking slow, deep breaths.
You lie on your back, arms out to your sides, begin with feet on floor knees bent, then just let your knees fall open to the sides and feet come together.
I sometimes like to rest my hands on my belly and really feel my lungs and belly expand on the inhale.
You can also do this with pillows under you knees to reduce the stretch.
You don’t want to do this stretch if you have sciatica. Just lie flat and focus on breathing to relax if that is the case.
