Stretch of the Week: Seated Lower Back Stretch
Here is a simple lower back stretch that you can do right now. Many of us suffer from low back pain from time to time. Sitting a good portion of the day which shortens the hip flexors and hamstrings play a big part of this. As do muscle weakness in the core. Sometimes you just need to stretch out those compressed lower back muscles, the erector spinae muscles and you will also get a nice stretch in the glutes and hamstrings.
Just push your chair away from your desk a couple of feet. Separate your feet wider then hip distance and simply fold your torso down between your legs. Breathe deeply and let the traction relax your lower back. Hold for 30 seconds to 1 minute. You can repeat this any time during your day to relieve tension and take a body break!
